What to Bring - Fall Overnight Camping

Camp list:
  • Water bottle
  • Backpack
  • Warm Sleeping Bag and / or Blankets & Bedding
  • Packable pillow
  • Flashlight
  • Bug repellent
  • Warm pajamas
  • a change of warm clothes (dress in layers so you can add pieces or / remove if you get too warm)
  • baby wipes, toothbrush, etc.
  • mess kit (unbreakable bowl, plate, cup, fork, knife, spoon)
  • a warm knit hat

And Webelos:
  • tents if they have them
  • mattress pads (they'll be sleeping on the ground)

The boys will need to be able to carry their own gear from the parking lot to the cabins -- hence the need for a medium-sized backpack. The boys will need a sleeping bag, camp-sized pillow, a mess kit (dishes, cutlery, ditty bag), flashlight. Unless you are a Webleo or are tenting, there's no need for a sleeping pad or mattress (that's provided). No need for pots and pans.

We usually travel to / from camp in our uniforms. On Saturday, we will be traveling TO Alpine in our "Uniform B" (Scout pants and pack 187 t-shirts). On Sunday, we will be traveling HOME in our "Uniform A" (full Scout uniform).

Note that it also gets chilly in the mountains at night, and the kids should take off EVERYTHING they've been wearing before getting into their pajamas. Damp underclothes and sweaty socks can make you uncomfortably cold in the middle of the night. Also, heat escapes from your head, so if it's a cold night, the boys should wear a knit cap to bed. Makes for some dramatic bed-heads in the morning!!
